OMS-410 kit

2002-04-22 by mmarsh100

Howdy All -

For the 20 or so folks who are going to build Todd's kit, here's a
heads up and a question.

First, the heads up: make sure you correctly orient the PCB on the
Stooge braquet before you cut and solder any of the connections. A
dry one is fine, no need to bolt it down. The issue is that the PCB
was meant for the OMeg pots with brackets, so the PCB on the Stooge
Bracket will be backwards with the pot pads on the other side from
the pots. The power connector will then be up almost against CV pot
1. You can mount it upside down, then the pot pads willbe CV3 up
with CV 1 down and you'll have to cross the wiring. Also in this
case, the socket connections will be at the top of the module
requiring long cable runs.

Whichever way you choose, measure twice and cut (and solder!) once...

Now the question: the kit comes witht the pieces-parts for the power
cable and the connector to the 410. The connectors are some sort of
compression-fit deal, you can't solder them. I believe you're
supposed to press the cable into place and this will cut the
insultaion and make contact. The problem is, I can't figure out how
to do this! Paul told me once a while back ago that making your own
power cables required a special tool. I did buy a hand tool that is
supposed to do this (it looks like a big plastic "T") but I can't
figure this out.

Any help on this?

Mike
