I am all for the digital oscillator if it will enable 1V/oct control. That feature is very useful for controlled harmonic, as opposed to inharmonic, generation. I liked Jurgen's suggestion about the multiplying DACs. After all, a DAC is just an R-2R ladder or binary weighted current sources, which is still analog in my book.
