Here's another idea based on b) 4 pots, 4 jacks:

   * Two LFOs
   * One PAIR of knobs per LFO: SHAPE (TRI to SAW? to SQUARE?) and 
Rate
   * One PAIR of jacks per LFO: SYNC and OUT

Simple and useful and cheap!
