It does it by a combination of selected waveforms, fixed filtering and the dynamic ladder filter. And a little wheeeep at the start of every note. That comes from a dedicated EG blipping the frequency of the VCO slightly at every new note. Mind you, they may have got the idea from Tomita and bunged it on there afterwards. Works well though.
