My current setup is two 40U-high 19"-wide black oak racks, stacked on one another. Sort of an obelisk looking thing. It will hold up to 40 2U-wide modules, and it's not very expensive for the look you get. Over time I'll expand with two more along side of the current two, thereby doubling the module capacity. I'd like to build my own rack using a wider form factor, but alas I live in a condo and don't have the necessary tools (or space to store them) to accomplish this feat. My meager 19" rack has been filled with lovely modules. This is really only about 10 vertical rack spaces, but I am already considering what the final form might be. I know that many of you have made or are in the process of making your own big beefy cases. What sizes are you working with? One thing I sketched out last night was a vertical wedge shaped case, with about a 28 degree tilt back. 4 panels tall (so like 20 rack spaces) and 28 rack spaces wide. I worked that out and it is 56 2 unit modules before I have to go to a wing cabnet. The case would be somewhat over 50" wide, and like 3 feet tall. To me this seems pretty huge. One of the local folks can build it covered either with Formica or Tolex for a tidy sum, but then again how often am i going to do this. Any thoughts? I am trying to think of what I want to have at the end of this, and I am trying to think of what may still come out module wise. Thanks for any input. Bruce Your use of Yahoo!
