Preparing 1.6

Preparing 1.6

2004-12-05 by manu@netbsd.org

Hi

I'll be releasing milter-greylist 1.6 soon, but before I'd like two
caveats to be documented:

1) On Solaris, it's impossible to open more than 256 streams when
building milter-greylist using the 32 bit ABI (solution: use the 64 bit
ABI)
2) On Solaris, the memory usage is huge (solution: apply a patch to
Solaris)

Could the people that encountered these problems (Matthieu Herrb and
James Sutherland) contribute a few lines for the README file to document
the issues and the workarounds?

I'll add them to a new section 9: "known problems", and I'll shift
todays section 9 and 10 to 10 and 11.

The obvious solution is to use a real Unix operating system and
to give up using Solaris :-)

	Just kidding :-)

On Solaris 2.8, milter-greylist may grow out of memory pretty quickly
due to some bugs in the pthread nsl and socket libraries. It is strongly
recommended that you install the latest revision of patch 108993 (sparc)
or 108994 (x86). Solaris 9 and later don't seem to be affected.
Solaris patches are available from <http://sunsolve.sun.com/>
