Mailing lists which use different env-from for each message

Mailing lists which use different env-from for each message

2004-07-15 by Graham Murray

I subscribe to a number of mailing lists which use a different sender
for each email (I think to aid bounce tracking). A typical one would
be "maillist-name-NNNN-recipient-email" where NNNN is a monotonically
increasing 'serial' number' of the message being sent.

milter-greylist greylists each of these individually.

Is the best solution to this to add "addr" records in greylist.conf
for the mailing servers?

Is it really separated with a dash? I recently introduced a change to
strip anything leading to an equal, to get this kind of address working:
foobarbuzserial=address@domain

It's always a good idea to whitelist a real MTA.

majordomo2 uses this as the envelope from:

mannlist-owner+M1194=jeffw=smoe.org@...

This should be okay. milter-greylist will only retain smoe.org@....
What are the other mailing list software doing?

You probably already know, but regular majordomo (1) uses this:
(envelope-from owner-discussionlist@...)
