Some suggestions sought

2007-01-03 by Harish Pillay

Hi. I have been using milter-greylist on my sendmail system for about a
month now. I am glad that the spammers of the world are clueless and
the simple scheme of greylisting works so well.

I do have a question though. I am puzzled about the timeouts sendmail
is having with sites like yahoo.com, gmail.com and, yes, even hotmail.com.

I have run sendmail 8.13.8, 8.13.7, 8.13.6 and am now trying 8.14.0-beta
and almost all of them have the same issue. I know this is not a sendmail
list, but the milter-greylist is targetted at sendmail so I am sure there would
be others on this list who might know something.

I am running the stock kernel on my Cobalt Qube (2.2 series) and I am
suspecting that the sendmail timeouts are related to that. Any suggestions
on what else to check is welcome.

Thanks.

Harish

Hate to follow up my own post, but I got a hint from someone
on the comp.mail.sendmail newsgroup about timeouts between
milter-greylist and sendmail.

I have looked at the greylist.conf and I am not sure if there
are any timeout variables there that I can use.

I have move my sendmail to sendmail-8.14.0-Beta4 and it seems
to have lesser timeouts, but it still is ocurring.

I will try out the milter-greylist 3.1.3 with 8.14.0-Beta4.
