maximum messages

I run a mail relay as a service. One thing I don't want is a client
using my relay to send huge numbers of messages. It might be spam, or
it might be a virus on one of their machines. Some spammers are now
using viruses to turn a machine into a relay that uses the isp's relay
to forward mail.

I'd like to limit the number of messages a client can send. It seems
like it would be fairly easy to make milter-greylist do this. If
someone sent more than X messages after they were white-listed, they
would be re-greyllisted and would have to wait.

Some small amount of spam might get through but it would give me time
to react. It would be good to have some sort of alert when this
happened.

Has anyone thought about this, has anyone made milter-greylist do
something similar?

Hi,

But why don't you use the builtin sendmail functions "ClientRate(limit)" and/or "ClientConn(limit)" in /etc/mail/access. It came in Sendmail version 8.13.x
