Hmm, looks like some little/big endian and/or 32/64bit strangeness? 16777217 means 0x0100 0001 is the 2-complement (sign changed) of 0xfeffffff which is endian reversed 0xfffffffe -> -2 (32bit), reversing the sign with a 2-complement -> 2 ...
