Heavily greylisting windows XP boxen could be a major benefit.
How coudl that work? You would like to send probes to the sending SMTP
server? It might be unreachable.

Or do you plan to gather information from the SMTP connexion itself? How
will you do that? Can you ask some local server about a given TCP
connexion, given source and destination port and IP?
