You might consider adding this log-level line to your sendmail m4:
define(`confMILTER_LOG_LEVEL', 14)dnl

Then, while in /etc/mail:
make
make install
make restart

Now, you should be able to tail the progress of ALL of the milters in maillog.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
