Which debian release is this? I am using Debian 4.0 Etch. And it worked
fine for me on Debian 3.1 Sarge too.

I am compiling from CVS, although the releases work for me too.

Your libpthread files seem to match mine though. Perhaps a missing
libpthread-dev package somewhere.
