Dan, 

sendmail 8.11 is way old and offer limited Milter support. 
The 2 last sendmail series are 8.12.x and 8.13.x . 
Users should pick only versions in these 2 series  : more exactly 
8.12.10 or 8.12.11, or 8.13.x if they want stability.

IMHO If not, people should upgrade ....
