Whats wrong with my Poly 800?

Whats wrong with my Poly 800?

2004-08-08 by kp8002000

I think my beloved Poly 800 might be close to death. About two
weeks ago when accessing parameter 86(receive chanel)
instead of a two digit number, the display read P1. Somehow the
first number turned into the leter P??? A few days later, I turned it
on to find out that the memory has been erased. Now, it dosn't
seem to respond when I try to reprogram it? I'm thinking that one
of the chips or the internal battery went bad. Can anybody tell me
what I could do to get my P8 working again?

Hi
I supposed you have the poly800 mk1. I do and the same things
happens to my poly when the batteries is dead. If the display show
something weird like P1, you have to press the down button and
you'll finally reach the numbers. Someday, i thought my poly was
dead because i had weird sounds, and weird display. I change the
batteries and load the patches (yes i still have the original
cassette) and everything worked fine.
Don't give up and good luck.

I'm thinking try the cheapest easy method put batteries in the poly and then put the program set back in. If you dint have the factory tone set or any I think they provide it on this group. If not I will email you a .wav of a set of sounds if the machine works then always have good batteries in it or replace the battery back up. I think its the battery back up and that you use a plug in power source. So if thats true then go the cheapest easiest way. As far as the sounds go at least you should be able with power supply or good batteries to be able to program a sound and have some sort of normal reaction. SO twiddle with the it and see if it is holding parameters you choose make a sound then save it . If not then it needs to go to the shop. At 70 an hour to 35 and not very smart people to work on them good luck.It might Be easier keeping it as parts machine and buying another on ebay. Average price is 75 to 145 American yen....

On the earleir poly 800 mk1 they didnt have battery back up but later changed that. All my poly vers mk1 have the batter back up all three of em. I hate leaky batteries. So I only load them when im playing tours. I do have the diagram where to solder to if youd like to add the battery back up.

Thanks for the help everybody! I guess it could be the battery
backup. I opened up my Poly 800 to do a filter mod and
remember seeing the battery. Is it very hard to replace the
battery? I have only preformed synth surgery once(filter mod) and
was sucessful.
