Poly 800 mk1 with no internal battery terminals

Poly 800 mk1 with no internal battery terminals

2013-04-15 by eric justin

Hey gang

I was just about to start on my 5th poly 800 mod when I noticed something that I haven't run into before. This poly doesn't have terminals to soldier a lithium battery to. Is this a very early model with a different motherboard?

Yes, the early versions of the Poly-800 main board did not have a location for the lithium backup battery.

And instructions for installing your own can be found in the Poly-800 Servicing file section here:

I don’t know if it is possible to direct link to the file. You may have to log into your Yahoo account, go to the korgpolyex group and click on the links for Files –> Poly-800 –> Servicing –> poly8batt.txt. Then it will ask you if you want to open or save this file.

This link will probably get you to the folder where the file is:

you should do a data dial while in there too.

this rotary switch (NOT AN ENCODER)

http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=SRBM1L1400virtualkey68800000virtualkey688-SRBM1L1400

can be placed in parallel with the +/- value switches.

turn the knob cw and value goes up,
turn it ccw and value goes down

easy, just find your select line for those switches, place it on one side of each switch, then other side to the proper cath side of the diodes linked to the data bus.

no extra logic or circuit needed

it's not a cheap switch, but even at $15 shipped it is a fair price for a cool mod that's easy to install.
you can't change the numbers too fast though, skinny knobs can be turned too fast, having a fat knob will help slow down the turning..  guess that's why early encoder data dials were fat too.. to make you slow down.

see it on my HAWK

Data Dial Demo
