New HAWK software version now available...

New HAWK software version now available...

2013-02-01 by Michael Hawkins

For those of you interested, I have posted a new version of the HAWK software.

It contains a few improvements but nothing major. The improvement that is most useful to me and which I think you all might find most useful is that you can move from Tools mode to normal operating mode much easier. In short, you can jump out of tools mode and back into normal operating mode by pressing the "Bank Hold" button. No longer do you have to go through the entire Poly restart cycle. What a pain that was.

The other useful change is that when you receive a HAWK patch bulk dump, global 13 (bank select) determines the destination bank into which the patch bulk dump will be saved.

So with that feature and the quick in and out from Tools to normal mode and back again, getting those pesky bulk dumps out and in to the right places is much easier.

You must upgrade your boot code to version 1.98 before you upgrade the flash software to version 2.55. And remember that you can always go back to previous versions of software if you have problems with the new code.

Get the zip file here - https://sourceforge.net/projects/hawk800/files/Software/Version%202.55/

The other good news is that I have finally updated the owners manual. So it is now as recent as it comes. For those of you that like the sequencer, check out the new real time edit functions.

Enjoy!

Mike

Proposed HAWK software change...

2013-02-01 by Michael Hawkins

Due to the ongoing challenge of ensuring maximum performance of the HAWK, I propose reducing the number of patch banks from 4 down to 3. This will free up an entire 8192 of bytes that will then be available for storing sequences and global data. Most importantly though, it will stop the HAWK from missing MIDI time sync which happens when certain "write" commands are issued for certain activities. I am actually surprised no one has noticed this rather glaring bug.

Anyway, if anyone has a strong reason for NOT reducing the banks from 4 to 3, then let me know your reason so that I can take it into consideration.

Does this fix the cc#32 bug so I can select a bank via midi CC?

Actually, the previous version 2.54 fixed that. And 2.55 helps in other ways too.

I wonder how many people actually use the sequencer on the Poly? I don't - the Poly is driven by my computer like all my other synths.

I'd rather have more storage space for user patches than give up that space for a sequencer feature I'll never use.

What's the consensus here?
