The more I look at it, the more it looks like you could pop that plastic bezel off, route out the supports a little, and squeeze a 20x2 LCD into the space where the LEDs go. Anyone got a damaged top cover with the bit around the LED and buttons reasonably sound? -- Gordonjcp MM0YEQ

I have a PCB already designed that and built that connects a 16x2 LCD. I have about half of the assembler code for it already done too. I designed it for a 1RU rack kit. However, I shall have a look and see if it can be install between the existing display board and the bezel. But do people really want to go that route? I think it's probably a bit obscure for most. But if enough say HAWK owners say "yay" then perhaps we can add that to the feature request list. Mike ________________________________

Obscure or not.... I would love to see patch names displayed so I knew which patches I had loaded. This frustrates me with my JV-1010, Matrix-1000, Peavey Spectrum Synth, any Electribe, and so on..........

The GUI controller I've been working on will allow you to assign patch names for the first bank. Granted, you'd have to be hooked up to a PC to get it to show the names on the PC screen, but each time you change patches, not only will there be a nice 16+ character name displayed, it also gets a patch dump from the HAWK and sets all the virtual knobs/switches/etc. to that patches' parameter settings so you can see what each parameter's value is at a glance. The name of the patch will be boldly shown in the on screen Poly 800's keyboard mockup display(where you'd usually see the LED #'s). -Blaine --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, Narfman96 - Narfland Studio wrote:

I'm all for it! It'd be awesome to have a semi-graphical display instead of those cryptic LEDs. In the long term, it would eliminate the need for the parameter decal, too, as the display could display the parameter name and value as you edit. --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, Gordon JC Pearce <gordon@...> wrote:

I had a look at trying to fit a 2x16 LCD where the existing seven segment displays go. Unfortunately, the display I have (which is fairly typical of these 2x16 types) won't fit. The supports that would keep the keypad in place would have to be removed and the slope of the back of the case itself impinge into the area where the LCD display PCB would have to go. I don't see any way to put an LCD display into the Poly-800 in that location or anywhere else unfortunately. What about putting it there, but over the case, instead of inside? :-)

Even your mockup would intrude on the keypad. For a external cover to work, it would have to be narrower and more like a box.
But if we put it over the decal panel then we could just extend the existing profile of the sloped panel. To make it worthwhile, we could then add knobs and switches to the panel since we would be obscuring the parameter decals anyway.
Question: If we did do such a thing, what controls would everyone want in the way of knobs and switches. Keep it to a minimum but enough to make it worthwhile.
Keep in mind that all this hardware has to cost money and the LCD, knobs and switches only works with Poly's that have HAWK installed.

That's what I thought, too, why not making some kind of LCD holder that you'd put in place of the original display cover ?
Look at the quick mock-up attached as an idea...

g'day guys! recently i've been playing with 3d printing, and was considering modelling up the poly800 knob to print some out for my korgs. an LCD display could be a fairly straightforward printed object, much like these http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32629 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:32978 theres also some funky smoothing processes that can be used with acetone to smooth out the visibility of the stratas in printed ABS parts.. let me know if theres a mount or box you need to have modelled and test printed, the resulting file could then be reproduced as required on a 3d printer Cheers! I'd recommend looking at the interface Mutable Instruments Shruthi implements. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1zHRPTZH7B0/TzZUV_LBg3I/AAAAAAAAANE/lPglGaVH6-U/s1600/DSCN1183.JPG Maybe reduce it down to one encoder with push down switch, 3 pots and 4 switches. You'd make the OEM switches navigate the LCD menu to, right? I'd think you could create a tidy editor/realtime controls with re-assignable pots/encoder via soft labels so you had pages of groups like- Cutoff Resonance VCF Env. Depth (show as CtOff Res EnvDp) LFO1 Rate LFO1 Depth LFO1 Delay (show as L1Rt L1DP L1DL)

hang on: why not just integrate with a Novation Remote mk1: you get a shedload of knobs and faders, 2 LCDs, and they go for reasonable second hand price. Mike: does it work with the Remote? the oscillator could be a more important/interesting thing to focus on, if it could be made to xmod etc. i picked up a cheap Novation remote zero SL mk1, and it could pretty much sit in a rack ( i feel like building it a new alu case), it seems perfect for this sort of thing (can load 40 user device maps, be programmed via PC/Mac, and making it send sysex is as simple as inputting the sysex format with a variable byte. it does nrpns, cc, and all that stuff, and everybody needs one :) ) --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "bimmerfan222" <bperkins211@...> wrote:

I tend to agree. I have a MK1 Remote SL 25 and it is wonderful with a HAWK'ed Poly. What is really cool is that I have two templates for the HAWK. One for doing everything and one for modifying all three EG's at once. ________________________________ From: k9k9dog <domgoold@...> To: korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2013 7:27 AM Subject: [korgpolyex] Re: New display...? hang on: why not just integrate with a Novation Remote mk1: you get a shedload of knobs and faders, 2 LCDs, and they go for reasonable second hand price. nice units. whats a fair price for one? I get along alright with a GUI control.. the one I use can fetch all parameter "snapshot" values and set all the knobs/sliders and drop/menu boxes(waveform/modulator names, etc.) to their appropriate values everytime you change the patch. Mike, I'd rather see the arp working than the LCD/xtra knobs. --- In korgpolyex@yahoogroups.com, "k9k9dog" <domgoold@...> wrote:
