hello all

hello all

2007-09-04 by bys_jhn

i had a nice post all typed out and it didnt get posted. bummer.

anyway, im excited about all this talk of modding the poly 800... im
an ex 800 owner myself, and have done the moog slayer mod, the FM mod,
and am working on an audio input mod where there is a knob that fades
between the noise source/audio input, before all the rest of the voice
architecture...

mike, i have a couple requests for the new os:

id love to have a unison mode with detune. this would be useful for
hoover type sounds.

are there any plans to expand on the sonic capabilities of the chorus
unit? its a bucket brigade style chip if im not mistaken... could it
be tweaked into something more useful?

how about midi out while using the sequencer/arpeggiator? it would be
cool if we could still use it to run another keyboard.

finally heres some pics of my modded ex 800:

Sorry your post didn't make it through the ether. At least this one
made it through.

Nice mod you've done and tidy work too.

Unison is a big goal. Especially when attempting to do portamento -
which is really what I want to do.

I'm not sure how the chorus is set up. I haven't looked at it very
closely but if it is a bucket brigade chip then there are probably
quite a few things that could be done. I have my hands full as it is
right now so I won't be poking around in the chorus any time soon.

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi,

Chorus in Poly800 has some reserves - theres no signal feedback. It
is possible to lead feedback from pin 7 thru potentiometer to pin 3
of MN3209. I have dismounted it momentally, so I am not sure, if I
had connected it directly from pins, or somewhere from input (Q4,Q5)
and output (Q7) circuit. I added picture to the Pictures section.
This feedback makes more fat chorus.
Next Chorus-mods are available on modulation signal - MN3102 makes
2 clocks signals for MN3209. And MN3102 is modulated with triangular
LFO on pin 7. I have to look at home on it today. And I have digi-
camera now, so I will add more pictures.

Re: hello all

Jusuf,

I think you could actually replace the existing BBD MN3209 with a
MN3208 and that would expand the delay since the 3209 is only 256
buckets while the 3208 is 2,048.

And I think varying the clock would be a great idea as well as feedback.

Let us know how it goes.

Mike.

the clock is already modulated - that's what makes a chorus - chorus!
though i always wondered how ramp modulated chorus/echo would sound...
