Hello ppl, this is my first (stupid) question: Poly 800 mkI

Hello ppl, this is my first (stupid) question: Poly 800 mkI

2006-10-24 by cristoforcolombo

Hi people,
the subject of my first message is simpole:
I bought back my very fist synth ever. IAnd yes is a Poly-800 Mk1
Does it support any kind of bank data-or-dump from Cubase sx or any
other proggy (Midi Quest, Sounddiver etc)??? I would like to be able
to load banks from p800 to my pc (xp) and viceversa...
cheers

Hi there,

The Poly 800 does not do ANY SYSEX at all. The EX 800 does although it
is a primitive dump of everything.

I'm not sure about the Poly 800 MK-II.

There is a mod that was detailed many years ago where you would take a
copy of the EX 800 ROM and piggy back it onto the existing ROM. But it
requires skill with a soldering iron. Do you have any?

Mike.

Hi

I did this mod and it's not that difficult. I prefer not to soldered
all the pin of the IC chip, as mention in the article. I found that
the chip sit well in place even if I don't soldered it. I think it's
not a bad idea because soldered a chip is a bit risky. I bought the
chip at Ebay for less than $10 and the seller even burn the chip for
me. I just send the files to the seller and voilĂ . I think it worth
the trouble because load your patches via the cassette thing is a real
pain.

Thank you and good luck

Thanks Mike
yes I do have "soldering" skills but dunno how to find the ex-800
stuff...
Exept for this solution all I can do each time I need to dump patches is
to load via tape-wav-mp3 method...isnt' it?
anyway thank you for you precious help

Take a look here
http://analog.no/mods/korg_poly-800_mk-1_sysex.htm
You can get the ex 800 firmware there, as well.
For the eprom you should do a search at Ebay under the name of 2764
Eprom, I'm pretty shure you'll find something.

Good luck
Bernard

Thanks a lot, this is by far the most useful music-synth-tech-group !!!

After you've found the chip (2764) and the firmware, you will still
need to find a programmer to program the code into the chip.

What part of the world are you in?

I have the programmer and chips and firmware and could provide an
EX800 ROM for a small charge.

Mike.

But the MK-II DOES do MIDI sysex

2006-10-24 by korgpolyex800

Hi Poly fans,

I fear we led our newcomer down the wrong path. Just poking around it
looks like the MK-II does do sysex dumps.

Go to our files section and fourth down on the list is
datadumpreqst.syx . This is the sysex command you can use with most
computer sequencer programs.

Looks like you don't need to look for that ROM after all.

Mike.

thank you all for helpin me. I've found on th net, on the sound quest
site, a program called Midi quest that claims to be able to work with
poly 800 Mk1 & 2!!! Is it that true or not ?

Yes, Soundquest will be able to send note on off, program change etc
to the Poly 800 MKI but it will not be able to send patches to or from
the MKI. Only the EX800 and MKII can do that.
