hi im new here

2005-04-03 by dingiskhan

hello everyone,

i just got a poly800 and i think i've seen just about any and all moog
slayer information i could find online. at first i wanted to have the
option to turn the mod off but i ditched that idea. i'm gonna go to
radio shack and pick up some 50k pots. the one thing i'm worried about
is the resonance pot. i played with the built in trim pot and it was
way more than enough resonance. i dont want to blow any speakers out so
should i use a different pot for that? i want as much cutoff as i can
get but i don't think i'll need too much resonance. i might do that
little modification to put the enable switches on the front panel. so
any help would be cool. i've read the current posts about the guy that
lost his banks every time he turned it off after he did the mod. i'm
still unsure of how those wires are connected. does the wire go to the
resistor on that cardboard? does it go to the diode next to it? it
seems every site has a different way of doing that. thanks to anyone
who can explain this.

method 1 (recommended):
an easy way to limit the potential for destroying speakers and ear-drums
is to limit the resonance setting in your patches. instead of the
resonance parameter going up to 15, leave it around 10 (or something).
with the patch programmed that way, you can go crazy with the knob and
remain safe.

method 2 (not recommended):
another way to do it would be to add a resister in series with the
resonance pot, between the CW terminal of the new pot and the old location
of VR5. experiment with different values, starting with ~ 20K.

hey thanks,

i think i'll just do the first one. another problem i have is that my poly might have an output problem. on most but not all patches, the sound comes out crackly like a dusty record. is this normal? i'm not sure if i should hope for it to be normal or not. if it is normal, i know i don't have a problem, but if it's abnormal, i guess i have something to fix. if anyone has had this problem, let me know, and thanks for the help
