Hi I did this mod and it's not that difficult. I prefer not to soldered all the pin of the IC chip, as mention in the article. I found that the chip sit well in place even if I don't soldered it. I think it's not a bad idea because soldered a chip is a bit risky. I bought the chip at Ebay for less than $10 and the seller even burn the chip for me. I just send the files to the seller and voilĂ . I think it worth the trouble because load your patches via the cassette thing is a real pain.
