Signs & Symptoms of a bad SSM2033

Signs & Symptoms of a bad SSM2033

2015-10-03 by voltagegrove@yahoo.com

Hey All,

I am inquiring for any information regarding the signs and symptoms of a bad SSM2033.  Still trying to diagnose my MP and if anyone could lend just a short bulleted list of what would occur from a bad VCO chip.  Would a damaged IC affect tuning and stability? It would really help out a lot. Thanks!

There are no other known issues, than it won't play at all. Everything else can have a different cause than the 2033, so tuning or stability are no certain signs.

If you suspect a 2033 to be bad, then simply swap it with another voice. It requires good desoldering (and soldering) skills. The thermistor has to be dismounted before and remounted then again. Don't swp the thermistors between voices.

Hey thanks for your replies,

I will be contacting my tech first thing tomorrow.  I am assuming that it is not the SSM2033... VCO4 just doesn't seem to be tuning up properly.  Hopefully I will have more information to give.  There did happen to be an accidental short (human error) that blew the two fuses on the back board, KLM-376 I believe.  After this happened, VCO4 hasn't been able to tune properly. If the short would have blown the 2033, I assume there would be more symptoms... If anyone has any other thoughts, suggestions or ideas; they would be much appreciated. Thanks again!
