cv+gate in is dropping notes

cv+gate in is dropping notes

2008-08-19 by intellijel

When I sequence the monopoly from an external sequencer via the
CV+trig in the sequence is totally in consistent. I get
dropped/skipped notes frequently and the sequence never stays locked
and conistent.

When I trigger the arpegiator (using a gate2s-trig cable) it is no
problem to stay locked.

What is the solution to this problem?

Hi Danjel.

What is exactly the source of the gate-signal? The monopoly expects (and
sends) +15 Volts as gate. And the real threshold is set by R63/R62 at
KLM-355 (both versions). According to the nominal resistor values the
threshold is at 2.5 Volts, but it may vary with extrem values within the
the variation of the resistors.

If your gate has only 5 Volts and comes from a MIDI-to-CV/Gate interface
with a weak output, then the gate-signal may not trigger the gate
recognition around IC5.

You might insert a trimmer of 47k between R63, R62 and +Input of IC5:
one end of the trimmer to R63, the other end of the trimmer to R62, and
the wiper of the trimmer to pin 3 and R64. With this trimmer you could
set the threshold manually.

Hey Florian,

Thanks for the info! (as usual :) )

So just to clarify, the trig input of the monopoly is a normal gate signal but the arp trig is an s-trig?

I think the paia midi2cv8 out is 12v from looking at the schematic but I should measure the actual output. I like your suggestion about modding the gate threshold setting in the monopoly but maybe it will be faster for me to just make a little external voltage amplifier for the gate signal.

What midi 2 cv converter do you use with your monopoly?

thanks for the help!

I use a HARMS Mac16 (very rare interface built in the late nineties by a
german engineer in Hamburg, comparable to the kenton pro 2000 or Doepfer
MCV24).
