ROM version 1.1 upgrade?

OK, one more beginner question. My K3 has got the old ROM, and I want the improved velocity/aftertouch of version 1.1. I wrote to Kawai asking about it, but does anyone know how difficult this is to replace? Is the chip soldered or socketed? And is Kawai the only source for the ROM?
