Yes, the protect switch has been set to off. It was like everything was working right, but the end result was wrong. I tried all sorts of things for two days. Finally, I found the solution -- use another laptop! In desperation, I downloaded the Kfuenf librarian onto my clunky, slow Acer running Vista. The first time I tried to upload a patch, it worked. I can't do a whole bank at a time, but I can get some new sounds in there to replace some lame ones. I don't know why I can't get a sysex into the k5 using my trimmed down Gateway running XP, on which I regularly run Ableton Live with up to 8 different key and midi controllers without problems. But since uploading patches is what I do the lease with my setup, I'll gladly just grab the clunker to upload something occassionally, and focus on what I want to do -- make music! And as I discover when messing around with this thing, it is stupid easy to program. Compared to the menu-diving rigors of my D-50 or Miniak (with just one knob to control everything!), the page system with a larger display is a joy. The tutorial in the manual was very helpful. It's a different kind of machine, for sure. I hope I can get as much use out of it as my others. --- In k5synth@yahoogroups.com, Antoine Deschênes <antdes45@...> wrote: > > Hi, is the protect switch on the back set to off? > > > Le 12 juillet 2011 10:21:52, kholt81936 a écrit : > > Hi there! > > > > I just picked up a K5, decent enough price. It's in great shape physically, just a dim LED backlight, but it's still quite readable in my studio, so I'm okay with that for now. What is frustrating me right now is uploading patches into it. > > > > What I have to connect to the synth is Midiquest, fully configured for the K5 (along with my D-50 and DX11 in the studio window), and a copy of the K5 Librarian from the Kfuenf site. I'm able to do dumps of the bank that's already in there and I now have backups of the data from both programs (Midiquest's is proprietary). And when I open a patch in Midiquest, I'm able to change the parameters in the patch and change the sounds. I haven't tried saving the changes yet . . . . > > > > So far, everything works similarly to my other synths. However, I'm unable to transfer a patch bank from my computer to the K5. So I used that patch to experiment with, knowing a copy was elsewhere in machine memory. Somehow, though, and I don't know when or how, patch 1 in bank A was accidentally overwritten -- by "Jupiter". So now I have three copies. So I was able to upload at least one patch; probably with the Kfuenf program. > > > > Any suggestions? > > > > > > > > > > > > ------------------------------------ > > > > Yahoo!
