To take this thread to the next level....If I imported another patch and made 
a 2nd layer, such as a marcato string on top of a legato patch, how could I 
smoothly switch between the two patches with say the mod wheel?   Thanks.

Instead of doing this in the groups in the instrument editor (as you might
expect) you do it on the main EXS24  interface. 

Map Controller 1 to "Sample Select" in the Matrix. The values you set for
velocity switching on the Zones or Groups will now be the crossover points. If
you have X layers then every note will now use X voices. Turn on crossfading if
you want a smooth transition.

 One limitation you might strike is that you can't have velocity switching and
crossfading simultaneously. If you have muliple velocity layers in your
separate articulations you are better to use the key switching that you set up
in the groups in the editors (select by).

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
