The basic waveforms are very good and in most cases very fat because they were sampled from heavy layers. A lot of sounds can't even be played in chords... The EXS24 filter is very good and powerful. It has a nice selfoscilation and adding drive gives it even more personality. But is doesn't clone an analog (modelled) filter! It has a character of it's own. EXS24 + Xtreme Analog is to me a sort of interesting hybrid instrument with beautiful sounds. However my Pro52 isn't out of business at all! Also there's the *big* difference in CPU hunger. When playing comparable voices with Pro52 only 20% of the CPU is used compared to EXS24 with Xtreme Analog. > are the sounds multisampled - with different velocities? No, the filter is used to obtain this. It's good enough to do that and also more natural with more different nuances. It would take a lot of layers to do the same with velocity switches. They layers are used to combine different sounds for even fatter results. Conclusion: - When you want beautiful 'analog' sounds with a special character and you have a fast CPU, go for Xtreme Analog. It's really a quality product! - When you want to go vintage analog in the first place, Pro52 or Mercury One (also a lot of CPU needed) come closer.
