Message posted by Jay Asher <jay@...>: I was at Kirk's studio yesterday pklaying this and all I can say is "Wow!". It sounds great in the cpu efficent EXS24 and Kirk has added a lot from his upcoiming Ruby library. At these prices any EXS24 user should have this library. http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/khsogigaork2.html

Jay, How wet/dry is this product? Some of the demos I've heard are so over processed that it's hard to tell. With regard to ambience, would you say that this KH product is dry like VSL? As wet as EWQLSO Gold? I realize that this is hard to describe, but please try. I'm definitely interested. Thanks, -Mark

The samples were recorded in a "FAR" position but have to trailing reverb apart from a little on pizz and staccato sounds. Otherwise you can safely put your own reverb on it. The demo I did had some tweaking done by Kirk. I would have done it differently however so I can see where it might be hard to tell. Thanks, Chris Caouette www.chriscaouette.com

Message posted by Jay Asher <jay@...>: Chris beat me to it! (Nice demo, btw, Chris.) Yes, wetter than VSL, dryer than EWQL which IMHO makes it a great library either by itself or to blend with others.

Although I own EWQLSO and VSL I'm always looking for something else to add to the mix but it just didnt grab me. The IDEA is totally awesome though, a light processor weight orchestral library for the EXs24 that is cost effective and (more or less) complete. -Terry Michael Huud www.Music4TheMovies.com

Hi Terry How do you like EWQLSO and VSL? Do you prefer one or the other? How are they on the processor load, do you use multiple computers or run all in one box? Thanks! - Dave David Gordon Composer/Producer Sequoia Records http://www.sequoiarecords.com

It sounded like a silly little squeek between all notes. I'm using VSL OPUS 1 and it's legato is much more convincing. Kirk's recordings sounded really clean to me, but I'd put the library in the camp of Motu's MSI and the newly reworked Miroslav, both of which seem to me to be a cut below VSL and EWQLSO (although I do use some sounds from MSI and even GPO...). But if I had to choose one library I'd flip a coin between EWQLSO and VSL. EWQLSO for huevos, VSL for realistic legato. My $.02 Robert

I have MSI, GPO, Complete Classical, and my legacy Roland/Akai library running on my main G5 through EXSp24 and Kontakt2 from within Digital Performer. (I'm lurking and checking out Logic...) Robert

Would you point me at the prior message, or repost it? If you'd rather not - no worries. Thanks Dave

<<Hi Terry How do you like EWQLSO and VSL? Do you prefer one or the other? How are they on the processor load, do you use multiple computers or run all in one box?>> DAve, I love both. Although there are many times I need a type of string sound and cant find it in EWQLSO so I go through my VSL and usually find it. I think I needed Flautando strings once for a sci-fi show and found some great combinations in VSL. What I like about VSL is that it runs very nicely on my EXs24. the EXs24 is a very efficient sample player and works very well inside Logics environment. The EWQLSO is another story. I had a second PC computer configured just for the EWQLSO and may eventually have another made to help break that library up even more. (i.e. strings on one computer/ woodwinds and brass on another and maybe percussion/ivory piano on a third?) At the moment I have EWQLSO running better inside V-stack>Kontakt 2 on my PC than it does on my Mac although if you have a really top end mac and enable DFD you shouldnt have any problems. DFD makes the sample STREAM for better performance. If your serious about writing big opus's with giant arrangements then mutiple computers is the *only* way to go. (imho of course...) PS/Note: Oh and you dont have to spend a FORTUNE on the PC you have running EWQLSO. An Athlon 3500+ 3.5 gigahtz is fine and their not a fortune although you'll spend a littel more on hard drive space since most orchestral libraries take up room. When I had a PC build JUST FOR all of my softsynths- well that was another story. THOSE require really fast processing speeds and LESS hard drive space... -Terry Michael Huud www.Music4TheMovies.com
