Re: [EXS] Strange Clicks

Re: [EXS] Strange Clicks

I've fixed one of the problems I was having. It would seem that in the
translation of a giga file to exs, some of the samples of the
instrument had had their root key set to C-2, when they should have
been 7 octaves higher! The click I was hearing was the sample being
played very fast. FTR, it was the solo snare from the G-Town free
percussion library.

I still haven't found the answer to the 1st problem, clicks at the
beginning of a sample (you still hear the whole sample) that are only
heard through EXS, not Logic's audio editor. The files, in this case,
are all the instruments in the Bass Trombone section of the SAM
Trombones collection.

Ops, that was the meaning!
I'm experiencing this and more heavy problems with M. Vitous Library.
Some samples have evident cuts, others sounds completely different
(other notes or double notes) and sometimes are unusable.

I'm changing all the settings I can manually (luckily I found problems
in very simple patches...)

Did you say these were Giga imports? I've experienced similar problems with
the imported GOS library, and found that the individual translated voices
often have unexplainable sample offsets in the EXS instrument, as high as
2000 samples. Reducing or deleting those can help, as can fiddling with the
attack portion of the ADSR. I have the EXS version of the SAM Trombones.
I'll try to check it out on my system.

Hi Ned,
have you tried using the "update zones info from audio files" menu
functions found in the Exs Instrument editor?

Would you mind explaining what that function does exactly?

Among other things, it updates the "sampled data offset" parameter in the
EXS file. I noticed it with the files as well - I know that SAM made the
mistake on early versions of substituting samples and not updating the .exs
file.

The parameter simply tells the EXS where in the sample file to start
playing the data. It can cause a click by starting the data prior or after
where it's supposed to.

Thanks for the clarification Garth.
