Thanks for all that contributed to these files... BUT am I the only one who wishes there was a "Download All Samples & EXS Patches" file???? It will take all day to get em all the way it is now... MAYBE some kind soul has downloaded them all and could post the complete set! Ha... yes I'm either lazy or to busy to do it 1 by 1... sorry & many thanks anyways, rrRand

Probably not. However, making all samples available in one set probably is not permitted, since they're hollow-sun samples and only available from their website. Besides, all samples would make a massive download. >It will take all day to get em all the way it is now... Well, well... an entire day to get a massive set of vintage samples and instruments... Yes, I can see how that would not be worth it... :-) >Ha... yes I'm either lazy or to busy to do it 1 by 1... Hmm, I suppose you know the answer to that one yourself, don't you? :-) When I update omega-art to include the latest addition of drum machines, I can easily add an 'all instruments' archive though. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

I just added some more Hollow Sun instruments: - all drum machines Michael converted last week - the latest Hollow Sun additions to the Fairlight archive (bass, mallets, woodwinds and high strings). The list of downloads has been split in 2 parts: melodic instruments and drum machines. Since the Omega Art Logic page was getting way too long and messy, I chopped it up in a couple of dedicated pages -- environments, tutorials, exs and faq. All EXS instruments can now be found at: http://www.omega-art.com/logic/exs.html The "mother" page is still http://www.omega-art.com/logic/index.html For those too lazy, busy or greedy to download the Hollow Sun instruments one by one, the EXS page now also includes links to 2 archives that contain all instruments that have been converted so far. For those that are even too lazy, busy or greedy to take the time to surf to the Omega Art pages, here they are: http://www.omega-art.com/logic/exs/hollowsun_synth.zip and http://www.omega-art.com/logic/exs/hollowsun_drums.zip Once more: enjoy... Hmmm... I wonder if we've covered the entire Hollow Sun site by now. If not, we're getting pretty darn close... -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

I just added the Yamaha CP70 (the electric mini-grand) from Hollow Sun to the collection. Crappy samples... As far as I can tell, the collection is now complete... Still at: http://www.omega-art.com/logic/exs.html Oh, I also did a new version of the Chapman Stick -- the samples have some empty space in front of them and so the trigger point had to be adjusted. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/

I'd like to know how much success people have had converting Akai or Giga sample CDs to EXS. Is much tweaking required afterwards? Andris

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this (especially Hollowsun, since those are the samples that made it all possible..!) now... on to the next archive... where are more free samples online to convert? Let's rock! ;-) -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- canine_at_waf80_dot_de good night europe. http://kainiggemann.de <your name here> ---------------------------------------------------------------------

It states >Exs24 instrument "Arp odsy bass2exs": >Audio file "Arp Odsy Bass2.wav" not found! The easy answer is: EXS24 can't find the file. (In other words, it's telling the truth.) Find the file yourself. Normally, when EXS24 can't find a file (that is, it's not where the .exs says it is), it starts looking for the file name somewhere on your system. This is determined by the Preferences option "Search for samples on". You can look on Local Volumes or External Volumes, or both types. If the file "Arp Odsy Bass2.wav" exists on yours system, it would have to be on one of the volume types you didn't select, otherwise EXS24 would have found it. Or it doesn't. Those Hollow Sun instruments used to be offered from Steve for free, but then he eventually had to make money and pulled the instruments off because they wound up in the Nostalgia virtual instrument. The EXS versions are still out there but since the S-5000 originals were pulled a long time ago, there's no .wav files to accompany them thus they are dead. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

Another point has been the fact that very rarely folks even came up with a "thank you, Steve". They were just loading the sounds and that was about it. And IMO there's been some really excellent patches which defenitely deserved more than simply running away with them. I still use quite some of those patches on a regularly base. Regards Sascha

I seem to recall that many people thanked him on this list and other lists during that time. Plus I never saw a response form on the site. If you offer free sounds, should it not be with strings attached (like a "thank you card")? Donation-ware is a valid system, but I never saw any requests for donations. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

Regards Sascha Hmmm... I was thinking of doing a Radiohead style pay what you want thing for a 50's - 60's vintage BBC sound effects library after I put it into EXS instrument format from vinyl, presuming that licensing and copyright issues can be dealt with. It's a ton of work but it'd be fun. Am I crazy or is it a good idea? I'm doing it more out of a sense of altruism and preservation of the content than anything else but if any one wanted to give me a few bucks I'd take it. Any advice would be well appreciated. Randy

Better do do your own work and try the pay-what-you-wish approach with that. Best Hans

My info is that I think it was 15 seconds of any sound is not subject to copyright law. It falls into the category of sound effects and is fair game. I'm not a lawyer. I used to be a BMI publisher to a very limited extent back in the day. I hope this helps point you in the right direction. I don't know how many people on this list use CDXtract, but it converts Akai S5/6000 programs beautifully to EXS and makes it very worth while buying some of Steve Howell's commercial offerings. I have the Matrix 1000 disk and have been delighted with it. Steve really knows his stuff as a programmer. I will buy some more in due course. Tony Thompson http://www.myspace.com/coolwight
