exs causes crash...

exs causes crash...

2003-10-26 by rogaine535

Hello all,

I am trying to run EXS24 on my new Dual G5 but have run into very frustrating
hurdles. It appears that the EXS24 cannot stream data quickly enough from the
internal hard drive. I am running no more than 30 voices of polyphony of moderate
size samples before this occurs. This should be nowhere near the performance limits
of this hardware.

I have attempted to optimise Virtual Memory settings, but to no avail. Once these
"limits" have been reached, Logic freezes and requires a force quit on most occasions.
There have also been a few "core audio overload" messages in relation to the taxing of
the EXS24 resources, but again occuring nowhere near the apparent DSP limits of the
hardware.

Current config:
Logic 6.3.1 (as well as an attempt with 6.2)
OS X.3 (as well as a previous attempt in X.2.8)
1.5 GB RAM

Something is not behaving properly and if anyone has had similar experiences (or
solutions) I would be very curious to hear them.

Thanks to anyone with a response.
Take care,

M

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem. I was just about to post the same thing to
the list. I am using a dual 2GHz on Mac OS X 10.2.8 with Logic Platinum
6.3.1
I have 2 SATA 160GB drives. My samples are on the non System drive.
I am using an RME digiiface with latest drivers. I will try an earlier one.

What audio hardware are you using?

Matt

Mi Matt,

I'm sorry to hear you're having the same problems...but relieved at the same time to
see that I am not alone. This is all very frustrating!

Since I am currently awaiting driver updates for my Metric Halo 2882, I am running off
of the internal audio hardware (which is all the more surprising that it doesn't work).
And just to give another bit of information, I am currently only running one 160GB
SATA drive.

I hope we can figure this one out very soon!

Hi there, i've been having exactly the same problem with my new g5
dual 2ghz, and have been discussing this a lot with others on the
vienna symphonic library forum who've been having the same problem.
No solution has been found yet, but we have deduce that it is not
audio driver problems but it is the virtual memory not streaming
properly. All i can say is that you should e-mail or call emagic and
make them aware that you having these problems, if we can get enough
people to make emagic realise there is a big problem then hopefully
they will do something quickly in time for the next update.
