It is my understanding that when using Gigasampler each 'patch' can have
multiple dimensions. So a patch could have one dimension for each type of
articulation/style necessary. E.g. a trumpet patch could have a regular
sounding dimension tounged normally, another dimension with a legato
tounging, a dimension with a certain type of mute, another dimension with
another style of mute, etc. So while you're just playing one giga patch you
can easily switch between the different dimensions for different
articulations.

For now, since EXS only handles one "dimension" AFAIK (though at the
MusikMesse they showed off a beta version of EXS that could handle multiple
"dimensions")... so I think it would make the most sense for CDXtract (and
Translator) to convert each dimension into a separate .exs instrument. If
the Giga file stores a 'dimension name' you could just append that to the
end of the patch name, or if there's no 'dimensoin name' just use a simple
numbering system, e.g. trumpet1.exs, trumpet2.exs, etc. By only converting
the first dimension you're losing most of the functionality of a Giga
instrument, if it contains a bunch of different dimensions.

But as soon as 5.2 is available (presuming it still supports multiple
articulations as was shown off previously), the conversion routines would
need to be revamped ASAP to convert the multiple Giga "dimensions" into
multiple EXS "articulations" or whatever Emagic's term is.
