Re: [exs] Translator Mac Available - heedless (sic) chickens

2002-05-20 by Charles Lucy

I got the following message, (with a bomb) which would not go away even
on reboot, Nortons etc. etc.
"Sorry. A system error occurred. Error type 127
To temporarily turn off extensions restart and hold down the shift key"

Disk Doctor said
"There is a problem on LucyHD. A major error was found in the system.
You have multiple systems folders. Apple reccommends against this.
(16,1,10). Norton's Utilities is unable to fix this problem,"

So I did a clean reinstall of 9.1 and 9.2.1. I discovered the tongle
problem was less trivial than you suggest.
I had to find a dongle driver and put it in the appropriate folder to
get the system to work.
For "old hand" Mac users this is prolly obvious. but I am a recent Mac
newbie, from Amiga, via Linux, and shall be very happy when the OS < 10
is upgraded to OS X + + , and old Mac operating systems are total
history. What is all this extension, and total system crash nonsense anyway?
The reason I had chosen to buy a Mac Titanium + 3/4 gig a RAM, was
because Slab on Linux wouldn't do what I wanted, and I anticipate that
OSX will develop into a stable and reliable Unix-type OS like Linux,
which is easy to understand and configure in plain Open Source English.

Maybe then programmers will produce software for other than mercenary
purposes, and get them right through critical review + co-operation for
the satisfaction of creation and kudos.
