Just to add to Sacha's post. I have converted more or less 1GB worth 
of soundfonts using the EXS24. The first released that came out only 
handled AKAI conversion so be sure to be on a recent update. 

It seems to me that, say 95%, of the conversions go well, but some of 
them ended with the zones f...ed up. Well, I wouldn't know, 'cause I 
don't know how the soundfonts were originally, but when you end up 
with an acoustic bass preset, where you have to samples on each key 
10 semitones apart, you tend to think: This is probably not how the 
soundfont programmer had envisioned it. 

Still, There are loads of soundfonts floating around for free, and 
now we can enjoy them.
