Re: [exs] Really good orchestral for EXS 24 and EXS velocity switching...

Sorry for the late reply on this. I've been swamped.

I'm aware of this, but I do not believe that these presets are programmed in
their AKAI native format to cross switch... At least that's how it was when
I read them off my old E4 sampler... And the documentation suggests a manual
loading as well, prompting the user to 'link" them in their AKAI sampler.
However, you intimate that you yourself have done this, so maybe I'm
mistaken.

Yes, it is a very good library. I think that Advanced Orchestra beats it in
quality and it also has way more live performance variations (trills,
glisses, etc.), but the Roland library has a BROAD scope! It contains many
varieties of different instruments. As always with Roland, the sound quality
is quite acceptable, although perhaps a tad more processed than Advanced
Orchestra. There are marcato strings on the Roland library that trounce all
others, which came in very handy for a loud and heavy "Psycho-like" cue I
had to do recently. These babies just BARK!

Another thing I turn to this library for is the nice variety of concert bass
drums... And sometimes, you need JUST the right bass drum ;-) There are some
beautiful, expansive hits that are VERY soft, with a soft mallet; nice for
that gentle, distant "boom".

Roland Orchestral is a good option.

Sound On Sound magazine had a two-part special article on all the orchestral
libraries out there a year or so ago. I think that the reviews are online. I
tried to access their search engine, but their site was having problems.
Here's the URL. Try it out, yourself:
