EMW 200 and EML side by side.

Re: EMW 200 and EML side by side.

Does anyone know about the spec of EMW-200? Identical with EML-200 and all analog?

Also, does anyone know about this company? I'm interested in EMW-200 since it's almost impossible to find EML-200 these days and even if you find one the price is usually out of my reach. Any info is appreciated.

The rumoured price is 1500 USD which is about 500 more than my interest level. At that price why not just buy a 200 when they come up as they usually come up in the 1500-2k range.

They mention it is a "improved" version of the 200. Improved probably means cheaper, obviously newer and more stable parts which I'm less interested in.

Apparently they will be built per order so you will probably have to throw down half or all the price of it to play around with one.

Also, they appear to have replaced the spring reverb with delay.

i like the delay in the audio demos, but the spring is one of the MAJOR features sound quality wise in an EML200.

my other thought is how 'true' is the circuit copy?  the mixer in the EML sounds GREAT!

totally clear 70's style transistor discrete awesomeness.

i wonder if they just copied the 'features' and not the design 'performance' qualities...

Thanks everyone for the info. Sounds like it's not something I should jump right in. I guess my next question would be:

Does anyone have EML-200 for sale?

Some of you might be interested in checking out a new software emulation of the EML-200, with additional features:

If I’m not mistaken, the eml200 mixer does not have a single discrete transistor. It’s all 741 op amps.
This applies to nearly all of the circuits in both the 200 and the 101.  Pure analog?  Yes.  Pure discrete transistor?  Not even close.
But as you said, the sound is awesome.  I will never part with mine.

Yeah, the EMLs used either 741s or 748s (mostly), with the 748s more prevalent in the 100 & 101, as will as some later designs.

There are some discrete transistor circuits, but if I recall, they were limited to mostly things like mic preamps, etc.

As far as the sound is concerned, the best description I can come up with is "tight". They are extremely controlled - probably due to the fact that those guys came from Gerber, where analog computing was king at the time.

Other "improvements":

They replaced the high pass filter with a band pass, added resonance to both the high pass and the low pass filters, and also added a control voltage input to each.

Where the mic amp is on my original 200 they substituted an "LFO".

A delay with "repetition" (not on the orig) has got to be altogether different from the spring reverb I got wonderful mysterioso sounds from by banging on the case.

I'm sure there must be others but those are the changes from the orig that I noticed right off the bat.
