EML 301 Mystery

EML 301 Mystery

2010-09-09 by methypnox

Does anyone have technical experience working with the EML 301 circuitry? I am rebuilding one that had the power line coming from 201 pulled off of boards and then plugged back in wrong therefore making some opamp like TL082 in the AR section glow like the sun then cracked in half! The main power line is mystery for me where it gets plugged in since there are several identical posts everywhere. This also making things strange as normal has some custom expansion on the 301 for another box of knobs with leds and push buttons... Eye will post pictures very soon for giving much better view of situation. For the moment, I am wondering if it is possible bypassing the AR circuit for getting active output. The opamp was replaced yet unsure if adequate match or even the correct leg placement rotation of said chip... Any suggestions, advice, and or input is much appreciated!
Thanks
Sigi

Pictures from my phonecam are uploaded in folder titled Nihilist Mod Boxes. This Eml system was obtained in New Jersey ten years or so ago from someone who had gotten it from the original owner and was not into synths. Since that time this little monster has been very happily making strange noises on numerous vinyl releases... The accident that happened with the 301 occured when moving during studio rebuild in new location. For sure the AR circuit needs work with correctly replacing opamp that glowed... Yet the osc seq and other functions should be living if just supplied with power. That is my guess... It has been non functional for about 3+ years and not high priority since we have various other cv sequencers plus midicv 1.2v per octave box... Now super motivated for making this 301 reanimated... Looked at schematics yet not sure of pin out on opamp so will examine more intently soon... Thanks so much for the response plus even having clue what I am

Sigi,
I'm In South Central NJ. If you want to get your 301 to me, I think I can repair it for $100 or less. I can't tell how much damage has been done until I see it, however.
Care to meet up?
Doug
