For Sale: EML Electrocomp 500

For Sale: EML Electrocomp 500

2010-03-10 by RICHARD

Offered for sale is an EML Electrocomp 500 analog synthesizer. An inspection of the date codes on various electronic components leads me to believe that this synth was completed in late 1974. The lack of any exterior identification of manufacturer or model may be an indication of a prototype, early production model or a custom built unit. The controls are neatly laid out and anyone with a basic knowledge of how sounds are built will find it intuitive. The original slider caps are all present and accounted for. Photos are contained in the folder "EML Electrocomp 500" on this site.

However, this instrument does have issues. Pressing a key in the upper range of the keyboard causes the note to warble downward. The ADS envelope controls don't seem to work. A couple of the sliders are scratchy. On the plus side, both the oscillators are fully functional and the unit sounded great at one time; I have recordings to prove it! So this synthesizer is being sold as a "project". It will need to be gone through by someone knowledgeable about electronics with the expectation that some things will need to be fixed. The wood surface has minor dings and scratches and the metal surface shows a moderate amount of wear.

The EML 500 will be packed securely and shipped via USPS Priority Mail. The buyer will be responsible for the shipping cost at the 28 pound oversize rate from zip code 63126 but I will not charge for packing and handling. I will entertain offers from outside of the United States, however, be aware that shipping will be very expensive. Please contact me for a shipping quote to your country. I will accept payment in the form of PayPal, Money Order, Cashier's Check or personal check. The item will not be shipped until the payment has been secured. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for looking! Price: $250.

On second thought, I have enough projects but I'm sure someone else will chime in. Sorry for getting your hopes up.

For those of you that are interested in this synth, PayPal is no longer an option for payment. I didn't realize what was involved in setting up an account outside of ebay. I will accept Money Orders, Cashier Checks or personal checks. Also, if you're interested, I'd prefer that you send me an email rather than replying to the original message. Thanks!

hello,
if you still have it, I might be interested. Can you check the shipping
cost to Poland?
Doesn't have to be Priority Mail, Economy or slow boat is also OK.

Richard,

Do you have the serial number off of the EML500 you sold?  I would like to try to date my '500 and would like to compare serial numbers.

Thanks,
Dom

My EML 500 did not have a serial number on it that I could find. I wondered when it was manufactured myself when I first signed up for this group. Refer to messages #485 to #493 for help in determining approximately when your synthesizer was made.
