EML factory pics now in the Files section

EML factory pics now in the Files section

2005-05-04 by mike_b_eml

Again, many thanks to Dennis/m0n075 for posting these incredible
pictures of synth history.
It seems that for most members, there is limited access to the files
in the photo section.
For the benefit of everyone, I have placed full size copies of the EML
factory pictures in our files section now. You should be able to
download them. The 2 color pics are just under 1MB each and the black
and white is about 88K. As group owner, these are the highest res
versions I have access to.
Please abide by Dennis's request that the pictures are private and
not for publication. Dennis, if you have even higher quality
versions of these where we can see more detail, please contact me and
I'll see if theres a way we can post them for all to enjoy.

Thanks,

Thanks! Do you know who is who and what is that Syntar thing?

They are not my pictures. Dennis, who posted them, said they came from a
former employee, perhaps he can be of some help.
I met owner Dale Blake breifly when I visited the factory back in the day.
I think I'd still recognize him and I don't see him in any of these shots.

Don't know about the Syntar tho from the name I imagine it's some kind of
guitar concoction. There actually was a piece of gear like that called a
Syntar not made by EML. I have a half built contraption that was created
by an EML employee ( I wonder if it's Dennis's friend!) called a "Matrix
Pump." There's a pic of it in the photo oddities section. It has a multipin
jack and patching section labeled "SYNTO INTERFACE"...I wonder if it's has
any kinship to this other thing...

Actually they *were* manufactured by EML to George Mattson's (the guy
behind the syntar) specs.

Well the Synth Museum credits the Syntar to a company called Performance
Music Systems. Hey I'm no great authority, if there was an EML connection,
I wasn't aware.

Correct. As I understand it, George designed the guitar controller and
EML designed the electronics. The Syntar electronics became the
core of the Syn-Key.

George Mattson is subscribed to the Analog Heaven mailing list
and has posted several articles containing great detail about the
Syntar.
And he's quite happy to answer questions about it. You might
want to start by going back to the AH archives at:
http://www.retrosynth.com/ah/search/search.cgi

He still has some Syntar hardware bits, and within the last year he
has assembled a Syntar from NOS parts and offered it for sale.

Yeah, do a search in the AH archives for "EML George Mattson PMS" for the
story. PMS was George Mattson, he prototyped the Syntar using EML hobby
modules, and when it came time for production he brought EML in on that
too. Hence the presence in the pictures.
