FA (ebay) EML-100, EML-300, Electronmusic EML Book

Hi,

I thought some people here might be interested in these auctions. If not,
you might at least want to check out the pics, if you havent already seen
them in the EMLsynth photo gallery:

ELECTROCOMP EML-100 Modular Synth - 1 of 100 made!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=920063826

ELECTROCOMP EML-300 Manual Controller for eml-200 RARE!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=919805960

ELECTRONMUSIC EML Electronic Music Guide Book
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=920053767

I've got a lot of other nice vintage stuff up on eBay now but since this is
an EML list, I wont mention them here!

Thanks for reading,
Mini

Hey min,

Methinks ye are over-compensating a bit. The list is very low activity as
it is. If you post to the list about selling genuine EML gear, I don't
think there's any harm mentioning in the same post about some other gear
too.

Just don't go overboard, use common sense.

I assume members of this group have at least a passing interest in EML type
synths and very likely there are some others here who are looking to
buy/sell/trade too. Nothin wrong with that. Some sellers just look to
move product at a profit, collectability is the game, they could care less
about the stuff as musical instruments. Other sellers, while into it to
make money have a genuine interest in the lines and their history and many
are actually musicians. I hope you fall into the latter category but
either way, like I said, just have respect for the purpose of the group
and I'll pretty much let you do as you wish.

dear mike
thanks for the offer, i know youve said this before. i am the latter of the
2 - a musician first or i would never have acquired much of the stuff ive
got for sale! i like to try to keep things on topic, so i dont see the need
to post the other items ive got available here as they are not EML and i
wouldnt want to upset anyone.
now heres a question maybe someone can answer. does anyone here know for a
fact how many EML300s, EML301s and EML joysticks were produced? the later
seems to be the rarest of the lot, though there is a joystick and
significantly more in the EML301. also, i believe the eml301 only came in
silver although the 300 was available in silver and blue. does anyone here
know otherwise?
one of these days im going to hook up my scanner again and post some more
stuff to the archives! however, there is a lot of stuff already there so im
not sure how much new material ill have to offer!
thanks,
mini

I don't know how anyone would know this stuff unless they were part of the
original EML company or had access to their records.

A few years ago I tried to track down the origin of the Matrix Pump (see
photo archive). There's one section of it I have never been able to figure
out, and another part that is clearly unfinished. I managed to find the
fellow who received it from an EML employee. He had little memory of any
details beyond that. I tried to get him to help me reach the employee but
he had lost all contact info. He claimed that the employee also had a
storage garage with some other EML treasures...l'm kind of skeptical there,
I think maybe the guy was enjoying leading me on a bit.

There is a list somewhere giving estimates on how many of some of the EML
products were made. I forget where it is, Maybe the Synth museum. I don't
think the 300, etc. are included in that list. I even wonder how accurate
that list can be since the EML serial numbers don't give a reliable
count. Would like to know how they arrived at those quantities...

I have been told that the records no longer exist.

Maybe. Though in looking at pictures of this Matrix Pump, I truly wonder if
it was built at the EML factory or if it was rather something which someone
with access to EML parts whipped up on their own. If I remember (the pics
arent available now for some reason), the lettering kind of curved around?
It did NOT look like something a serious company like EML could be
responsible for as it simply looked goofy. :) Plus, I wonder why it was
unfinished. Could it possibly be a hoax? Does it really look like it was
completed in the 70s? You could probably tell by looking at the components
inside it. Dont get me wrong, EML DID make custom machines for people, but
I am not so sure about this one. If I can, I will ask someone who should
know and let you know what I find.

There is one in the Vintage Synth book.

I don't
>think the 300, etc. are included in that list.

Me neither, but if there were only 300-400 of the EML200's made and the 300
and 301 were optional controllers, one would assume there are far fewer of
them around. My guess was around 100 300's, but there could even be fewer.

I even wonder how accurate

coin toss? - heads says 1000 101's, tails says 2000? ;)

About 3/4 of it is fully functional and creates some very interesting
sounds, especailly when you send output from another EML piece through it.
I suppose it could be a hoax, but to what end?
The front piece is from a blank 101 panel that's been drilled out to fit
the layout of it's controls.
The logo is a little odd looking but the other labeling and design do have
an EML look. Whoever did it, had more than a passing knowledge of EML gear.
According to the fellow I traced it back to, it was an experimental piece
made by an EML employee, possibly to evolve into some specific product.
There's no way to know really, just speculate. Regardless, I enjoy having
it in my arsenal and those sections that do work are downright nifty.
