NEC FD 1035 configuration

NEC FD 1035 configuration

2013-05-10 by Adam

Hello, i'm trying to fix this floppy drive in the Emax II.

Anyone happen to have the same drive working? I'd appreciate having the correct jumper settings. (taking a picture maybe?)

Or someone who could fix this.

Maybe i should get an Amiga to make it work with that, so there's some analysing software.

The drive looks clean, i doubt it had any mechanical defects.

It does format, stepping thru the tracks nicely, and upon finishing, says disk error. Will not read a thing. In diagnostics every number stays at zero, so it really does not read.

It would be a shame to throw out....

If you take a picture of your block settings we may provide some guidance.
Looking on google I don't see that info posted anywhere, though there are
many who have asked, it seems. One thing is true- and older drives would
need a jumper on "DS0" and no jumper on "DS1", if it has such a jumper
block.

I will check in my stack of replaced drives at home later to see if I have
one of that model.

I don't have an NEC in my stack of drives.

Again- if you send me a picture of the jumper sections I might be able to piece it together.

Hello Ted,

i finally could figure out it. in the floppy test section i could change jumpers until i got it worked. for this i had to figure out that the connector of the head plugged in the wrong direction (it was not keyed). flipping it and changing the jumpers made it work.

happy ending!

my other emax ii is not able to read the disk written by this one, but who cares....

Re: [emax] Re: NEC FD 1035 configuration

It is a known detail that some of the Emax 2 floppy drive cables either had
the key in the wrong direction from what is expected or no key at all
allowing for incorrect floppy drive hookup.
Normally on most drives the stripe on the floppy cable is closest to the
power connector and on the Emax (1 or 2) the stripe is always nearest to
the back of the unit.
But some incorrect floppy drive cables (only seen on Emax 2, not Emax 1)
prevented this.

In those cases, I always replace that cable or remove the key, so that it
is "consistent" with the expected configuration.

Regards,
Ted

PS- if you have the jumpers you may wish to post it somewhere, or I can put
it on my Emax page- because looking on the web, I couldn't find any of that
detail.

Thanks!
Ted
