My Emax II wont find my new CF internal CARD READER

My Emax II wont find my new CF internal CARD READER

I set my Card reader to SCSI ID 1.

Is my CF card not compatible?
See the image below

Judging by the picture, it looks like the green ground wire on the Emax
power connector isn't going to the black ground wire on the CF reader.

If you have a multimeter, I would check to see if you have +5 volts going to
the black and red wires on the reader.

But i just said in the post that I have FIXED that
since the picture was taken. Green gos to black.
I have +5v going to the reader, measured with a multimeter.

YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM THERE IS you cant use the ultra cards they are to fast for the old samplers version 1 or 2 cards the ultra range are version 4 type cfcards

dont now if that card will work with the emax i know its spec to work with the old macs but not being able to read the pin options for setting the card

usually there are pin options for setting hdmode or atapi mode

atapi mode is for cdrom drives and zipdrives that are removable and so are hot swappable

on hd mode the cf cards are not hot swappable as the eide spec does not support it

you also need to set it to master

you also need it to set to pio mode for the type 1 cards as seeing it is only 512mb as cards faster than this including the ultra range require dma mode and the older samplers only work on piomode like the pcmcia drive cards which only work on pio mode

you also need to set it to termpower on

and you need to set the termination on aswell otherwise it wont bounce the signal back to the controller

Thx for the info Jammie!
So simply my CF card is not compatible.
Darn. I ordered this card a week ago. Guess this one is a no no also:
http://media.conrad.de/xl/4000_4999/4100/4110/4115/411560_BB_00_FB.EPS.jpg =P

What I can read out of the manual with a little google translation
my CF Reader only has options for setting SCSI ID 1-7
and for Termination ON/OFF (The CN2 PIN in the manual)
The termination is default set to ON.

I set it to SCSI ID 1 and Termination is on by default.

Any suggestions where I can buy a compatible CF card?

Best regards
drifter7508

Bought 4 of these cards:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380192997368&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Hope they will do the trick! The seller states:
"Low speed ,Compatible with old equipment"
Always a good sign. ;-)

I dont know how the term.power works in my Emax II.
I got the "Turbo model" with 8 MB ram, SCSI HD installed,
and external SCSI Interface on the back.

What I can understand, the original SCSI HD installed
doesn't have its termination ON.

Yes, expensive, but I dont care anymore. =)
Just want this thing to work! =P

I ordered these 2 things also:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330394550462&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180328325603&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Any luck those will work with my EMAX II??
They were pretty cheap so its maybe worth a try.

If you look at the database on the group you would find what converters are
known to work with what.

That IDE to SCSI bridge may work. but the fact it says ATAPI makes me think
it won't (except maybe with a Zip drive).

To use an IDE to PC Card drive, we know an ACARD 7220U works to convert the
SCSI to IDE.
The ACARD 7220U is not an ATAPI only bridge and works with HD, CD, and Zip.
I have one and tested it with a generic IDE PC Card drive also.
It worked with all of them in my testing.
While I haven't tried a "bare bones" IDE CF adapter like you show, in
conjunction with that ACARD bridge you would have the highest probability of
working.
This other brand bridge I just don't know.
If you get the bridge, and the IDE CF doesn't work- you may wish to test it
with an ATAPI Zip drive (if you have one) just to see if it works so we on
the group would know and could add it to the database.
If it is known not to work, we could add that info too.

If you still can't get it working you can send me your pieces parts and I
can see if I can get it working in an Emax 1.
If it works in Emax 1 it should work in Emax 2.
Regards,
Ted

Yes, you are right. These 2 did not work either.
Neither the first CF scsi card reader I bought, now
tested with proper CF cards. My friend who bought the same
could not get it to work either. He manged to run them succesfully
in his computer and in some newer EMU rack sampler.

I live in Sweden.

Im getting crazy soon =)
3 SCSI cd's tested.
2 HD's (One worked, thx for that)
2 CF card solutions

But I have had it for like 4 months and still no way to transfer sounds to my silent EMAX II. =P

So the stuff refered to below will work 100%?
This is gonna be my last try, then I will throw my Emax
out from the window or something ;-)

I would really like to have an external solution for my emax.
So I can mount the stuff in the external case.

Re: My Emax II wont find my new CF internal CARD READER

I use a much simpler method to transfer files to my Emax II.

I bought the set of Elements of Sound CDs. To transfer the files I use EMXP to transfer them to my laptop, and from the laptop to a zip disk, and then read them on the Emax II with a zipdrive. I actually bought two zip drives - a SCSI one for the Emax II and a USB one for the laptop.

EMXP is a great piece of software, although I have not yet found a way to bulk transfer 100 files without pressing Enter for each one. Ideally it would be nice to be able to transfer files directly from the CD to the zipdrive without going via the PC. I believe this is impossible at the moment.

I have also bought the 4 Elements of sound CD's.
I own a 250 Ioemga USB drive.
Perhaps I'll give it a try to buy a SCSI one too.
But I would prefer to get a CF card solution to work. =)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
