Diagnostic Errors

Diagnostic Errors

2008-11-30 by pauldays1

I have the following LEDs on:

* Preset Management
* Dynamic Processing

I read the manual and the Preset Management states Scanner is not
present, well? I have no idea what it means. I did a floppy swap, but
the unit doesn't recognize the disk. Prompts: Please Insert Floppy

Try to copy the software to the disc from another one disc.

I don't get it? I have many Original Emax II and Emax SE disks
all give me "disk format errors". I did a floppy swap, same lights
light up, but the prompt "please insert disk" still prompts.

I read the emulator archive and I sourced a Sony MPF920 drive which is
supposed to be a replacement drive.

I use my Emax II on a daily basis in my studio, so.....Please Help.....LOL

Paul

PS- Funny thing is.....none of the LEDs represent "Drive Failure"

It sounds like that your Emax doesn't find your disk drive or you
using damage diskettes.

Do you have a hard disk in your Emax2?
Disconnect your hard drive, if you have.

Have you try to format brand new disk in your Emax with different
Emax software. It doesn't matter if you using 1,44MB. The Emax only
can read 715 and recognize 1,44 diskettes as 715kb.

You can also try to get a "disk drive cleaning diskette" and cleaning
your disk drive from dust.

Hello Niklas,

I cannot do anything on the EMAX II, once i powers on it asks for a
disk, so how am i suppose to format one?

I believe the old disk drive is dead, AND that the new one is not right.

"The floppy disk drive usually fails after 10 years use, The floppy
drive can be replaced with a modern drive provided it can be set to an
id of 0 with jumpers. This rules out most modern drives except the
TEAC 235HF-A529. This is available in black, but is half height and
therefore leaves a gap in the front panel. E-mu supply the Sony MPF920
(black, half height) but at an excessive price. "

I just don't know if E-Mu modifies something in the drive, my computer
surplus store has the MPF920, I bought one but it is not reading disk.
 I will try to source a disk drive with jumper to see if it works.

Cheers,

Paul

Simply put the jumper for ID may not be set to 0- did you look at the
back of the drive for that?
