Upgrade OS problems

Upgrade OS problems

2007-05-10 by jansson22000

Hello my fellow emax users !

I own a Emax SE HD Rack unit with input for external scsi. The HD just
died so I got myself an Iomega 100 Zip drive and connected it to the emax.

When I got the emax from a guy it came with 2 floppys (piano and
guitar) and they have the Rev 3.2 OS. Which means that i can't use my
Zip Drive, If I have understood this correctly you need the emax plus
1.0 Os in the emax to be able to locate extarnal SCSI devices (or
could i use the Emax SE HD 1.1 version too ??).

Anyway when i try using emx, emxp (omniflopp isnatlled) with win xp I
usually get various errors when formatting and writing floppy discs.
And when they finally work my emax won't accept them and just start
humming and making noises. So basicly, I havent been able to udate my
emax. My emax accepts the piano and guitar disc fine, but it gets
boring just playing pianosounds and not being able to use spectral
synthesis (comes in later OS).

So my question is, how do i update the emax ? Is there a specific
order in which the updates must be made ? what final update should i
have ? Is there someone willing to sell me update discs ?

Excuse my spelling in this post, my english is'nt the best.

Thanks In advance and have a good day !
//Patrik

you just need the plus OS disk, it will boot from the floppysso boot from
the plus disk then load the piano sounds. there is a way to then save the
plus OS onto the floppies you have, replaceing the other OS>

If your HD stopped spinning, you cn bring it back to life by opening the hex
screws and giving it a good spin. if you have a rack emax, slapping the top
kinda hard can get it to spinm then power off and back on and you should be
good to go.

Hey Thanks !

Your answer was really helpfull, now I know which OS i should use, I shall try to slapp the emax (but not that hard of course!) to see if the Hd starts to live again.

Now i only need a floppy with the emax plus os. I shall try to use the emxp a few more times to see if I can get it to work properly.

Cheers !

Dear Patrick
I had just the same problem. My Emax is a SE Kbd version. I never made
it to use the EMX to format a sucessfull SE1.1 version disk.

Hey !

I got it to work myself =D I used emxp but i forgot to ducktape over the hole in the right nether end of the floppys. By doing so the emxp believs it is a 700? kb (something) DD disc instead of the standard 1.44 HD disc. It acts just like the standard emax discs.

Now it doesn't work perfecly but at least every second or third floppy formated gets usable.

Cheers !
