new emxp software project...

2006-04-18 by esynthesist

Hi all,

Just a message to let you know that I'm (still :-) working on a new
EMXP version.

The new version will contain a lot more features than the current one:
- reading banks from and writing banks to ZIP disks directly: this is
the most important new feature I think. No special driver will be
needed and both ZIP 100 and ZIP 250 disks will be supported.
- converting EMAX-I banks <--> EMAX-II banks
- converting EMAX samples <--> WAV (= current WAV2EMAX feature + part
of the EMAXLIB feature)
- quick view of the contents of any EMAX image or any EMAX floppy
disk or ZIP disk (i.e. without having to create a full EMX image
first and without having to create HTML reports with EMAXLIB)

Of course the current EMXP features will still be supported
(reading/writing/formatting floppies).
And I will probably also put the HTML report generator of EMAXLIB
into EMXP.

The software is not ready yet, but the current version on my PC
contains a rough implementation of all above features and it all
seems to work...
I don't know when the test version will be released, I guess within
the next one or two months.

O by the way, the user interface will still be DOS-based (but more
user friendly, with menus and selection lists). When I release the
final version, the source code will be published also so someone else
can write a Windows GUI for it :-). And someone else will have to
port the code to Mac of Linux, because I don't have these systems at
home.
