I forgot to make a note of which way the ribbon connector going to the external SCSI port is orientated.

On the PCB there is no socket and no labelling which pin is No. 1.

If a kind soul could let me know whether the red should point towards the chassis or the clock out jack socket it would be much appreciated.

The red wire is towards the side of the connector closest to the side of the unit, like so
