Emu Emax 1000 Keyboard having troubles setting up my HxC drive

Emu Emax 1000 Keyboard having troubles setting up my HxC drive

2015-07-28 by shawnjward@...

I have an Emu Emax 1000 Keyboard Version 2 Rev C and im looking for an Emaxos.emx OS file that would be compatible with my version so i can load the OS on my HXc drive

after installing the HxC drive and setting up my SD properly with converted HFE files, it will read the banks but will not load them because i think i have the wrong OS in the CFG boot file in the root folder

any help would be greatly appreciated

Shawn-

What OS is on the floppy you were booting with prior to installing the HXc? You should use that OS as the starting point.

If it wasn't ever booted (but you had added the HXc in hopes to boot it), then it's a bit more complicated, because we don't know if your Emax has SE, SCSI, etc.

If you don't have SCSI (or don't know), and don't know if it has SE, then you should start with the Emax 3.2 OS as it will work on all models.
The next step would be to determine what (if any) other features you have installed in the unit.
The OS version (if you boot from your existing floppy) may give a clue - unless it's 3.2 as that had no support for the add-ins.
Worst case- you create an floppy / HXc image location of the SE update, and boot from it- if it updates, you didn't have SE, and you now have SE- if it just boots, the unit was already SE.

As to SCSI- you would have to open it up and consult my webpage for further:

Please note that the installed features will determine what OS'es you can successfully boot from.

hi Ted.

thanks for helping out

unfortunately I don't have the original floppy

I have confirmed the IC13 Eprom is non SCSI (IP349)

the Tim Pal IC 49 has the SCSI feature lock on it also (PM7524) also there is no IC in IC6 socket so these would rule out any SCSI features/capabilities

Im also almost positive its not an SE

when i boot with the Emaxos.emx i found here it gives me a "wrong software" message http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emu ... emaxos.emx

So you are trying to boot with an OS that is either SCSI, SE, or both which your unit doesn't have.
I would suggest you first start with getting the SE image from the files section and then use that as your OS boot image, after the Emax is updated.

The SE image has an OS and bank. But it may be considered a special disk, that somehow you won't be able to write some hidden bit on HxC- I dunno.
This would be one of the reasons why I wouldn9;t use HxC.
I don't know how you write images to HxC, or whether it can be used in conjunction with EMXP, etc
I do slim floppy and SCSI drive.- Then you can always troubleshoot using floppy / diag disk, etc, and images for the SE etc, aren't a problem.

Only other thing I can say, is go for the Emax 3.2 OS...
