you cant fry the readers they have internal fuses that blow most are smd types but soldering on a new one will make the work again
as for the screen you might of also shorted the 5v line to ground
there is also a fuse on the oled screens for when some one mixes up the + and ground terminals
check the fuse this will also be a smd fuse
use a continuity meter to check it if there is no ring then you have blown the fuse just solder on a new one and the screen should be fine

After frying one cf card reader, I was careful to try to measure the voltages on the new one I was just about to put it. Probe slipped and I shorted the 12v to ground and now the new white OLED display is not coming on. The emax powers up and the zip drive will run (the enter LED comes up and stays lit), but that's it. Fuses are still fine.
Did I fry the display too?
