RE: [emax] Emax Rack VFD Display Instalation

2011-04-21 by el macaco

Thanks for nothing guys....

Just kidding!

I installed the Noritake VFD yesterday, it all went pretty smoothly, just thought I'd post for future reference.

Part number is CU16025-UW6J Noritake VFD 16 x 2 display (it's their LCD replacement kind)

The only hitch was the Noritake has the 1-14 inputs in one line, where as the Emax original LCD has them in 2 rows of 8 with just pin 14 designated. it took me a while to determine how the rest of the pins were numbered before soldering, but I got it right the first time.

Emax LCD is like this looking at the front
PINS:
14 - 13
12 - 11
10 - 09
08 - 07
06 - 05
04 - 03
02 - 01

Use the thinnest wire you can so it doesn't cause clearance issues (this is for the Emax Rack btw)

Then you have to attach the VFD module to the panel circuit board, I used wire through the screw holes and a little electrical tape to hold it steady, but I know some people used a hot glue gun. It is bright and beautiful! it's going to be so much easier to use my EMAX now. The display area is a little smaller than the EMAX original LCD, shorter across horizontally than the original, but not in a bad way, like this.

[________] Emax display window
[________] LCD
 [_______] VFD.

I tried to take a picture but my phone couldn't make the letters come out clear, they are bright but not that bright.

I hope that will help anyone considering doing this mod.

Backlights no more! Happy Emaxing.

Ed

Subject: [emax] Emax Rack VFD Display Instalation

Hey everyone.

So I just got a compatible Noritake VFD display form my Emax rack, and I am wondering if anyone here has installed it or has seen any resources on how to wire it in. It is designed for LCD replacement, so I think it comes with instructions, but it can't hurt to ask.

Thanks,

Ed
